This
website chronicles our journey from London, via Edinburgh, to
Cape Town. We left the UK at the end of November 2009 and took a
long and sometimes dusty and muddy road through Europe and Africa in our trusty Land Rover
Defender.
Our journey took us down the west coast
through French-speaking Africa to Namibia. From here we headed
east through southern Africa and then down the east coast of South
Africa to Cape Town.
On this website you will find details of our trip including
daily diary entries,
pictures, GPS tracks
and information for future
overlanders.
Please feel free to leave a message in our
guestbook or send an email to
info@greattreksouth.com. We hope you enjoy your visit.

The Great Trek South
is complete!
On Sunday the 4th of
July, after seven months on the road, 24 countries and 32,000
kilometres we arrived to a warm and sunny Cape Town and an even
warmer reception from friends and family on the Table View
beachfront.
Africa has truly wowed
and amazed us every inch of the way. While there have been some
challenging times it has shaped us, fascinated us and and left us
with memories that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.
Our
diary and photos
are now up-to-date and we have also put together a video highlights
package which captures a glimpse of our time on the road. Enjoy!
Please keep in touch.

BushCables.com
Bush cables are stainless steel cables that are attached across the
bonnet of the Land Rover. They are designed to force tree branches away and
protect the windscreen during off-road driving.
Kurt from BushCables.com has very kindly sponsored us a set for our trip.
They are excellent quality and will no doubt be invaluable on our journey. Please
visit his website for full details of his products which are designed to
fit a wide range of off-road vehicles.

Tilley
Tilley have very kindly sponsored Catherine and me two of
their comfortable and durable hats. Tilley hats are
Canadian-made and known to be of outstanding quality which will
suit us very well in the African bush.
We have chosen the
Tilley Insect Shield Hat and the
TH9 Hemp Hat.
While Tilley are famous
for their hats, they also sell a range of travel items and
accessories. See their website for more details.

Extreme 4x4
Jeremy from Extreme 4x4 has very kindly sponsored us an anti
roll bar upgrade kit following our rebuild. This significantly
transforms the handling of the Land Rover and should reduce the
risk of rolling the vehicle.
Extreme 4x4 sell a wide range of offroading suspension,
recovery and protection equipment.
Jeremy also runs Durite - selling auto electrical parts. Most
of our electrics are Durite, which we obtained through Footloose
4x4 and so far have been very reliable.
See the websites below for his full range of products.
