This week was a very significant one for us. We
took our Land Rover to the specialist 4x4 centre in
Peterborough, Footloose 4x4, with whom we made contact a few
months ago. The managing director, Paul, has a wealth of overlanding experience across six continents, and has all the
expertise we need to prepare the car mechanically and to fully
equip us with everything we need for our trip.
Neil took the week off work and had the opportunity to work
alongside the mechanic, Graeme, getting his hands dirty and
putting what he has learnt on his mechanics course into practice.
To say he has been in his element is an understatement. To say
that he missed his vocation - perhaps more accurate.
Upon dismantling the wheel axel sub-assembly and various engine
components, there were perhaps more things needing attention that we had
envisaged. But the main thing is that they are being sorted now
and that we will set off will complete confidence in our truck.
We are extremely grateful to the Footloose team for their
expertise, relaxed and friendly attitude and their flexibility. We
know that we are in safe hands and would whole-heartedly recommend
their services to anyone else in our position.
It was also great to spend time with Karl and Holly this week, who
kindly put us up in their lovely new home near Peterborough. Neil
enjoyed perfecting his bowling skills but Karl, you are still the
bowling champion! We are really grateful for the warm hospitality
and might well be taking them up on that again as we nip up to
Peterborough to check on Mpudi's progress.
